Tonight: A 1958 Classic

"Once upon a time, on the north shore of Long Island, some 30 miles from New York, there lived a small girl on a large estate. The estate was very large indeed and had many servants. There were gardeners to take care of the gardens, and a tree surgeon on a retainer. There was a boatman to take care of the boats: to put them in the water in the spring, and scrape their bottoms in the winter. There were specialists to take care of the grounds: the outdoor tennis court and the indoor tennis court, the outdoor swimming pool and the indoor swimming pool. . . Also on the estate, there was a chauffeur by the name of Fairchild, who had been imported from England, years ago, together with a new Rolls Royce. Fairchild was a fine chauffeur of considerable polish, like the eight cars in his care, and he had a daughter by the name of Sabrina. . ."

The Plot: A playboy becomes interested in the daughter of his family's chauffeur. But it's his more serious brother who would be the better man for her.

Nominated for 6 Acadamy Awards including Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Cinematogrophy, Sabrina was everything romantic and wonderful. And the music! It's so charming! I love Humphrey Bogart in this, I think it's one of his best films.

Believe it or not, Cary Grant was first offered this role and he turned it down. Interesting right?

Dan thinks HB was too old for this role, what do you think? I think he was perfect.

Please go rent this one tonight. Everyone will love it. It's funny, romantic, stylish and uplifting.
Happy weekend everybody.

Just Gettin' Ready For Bed

This weekend we stayed with the Zimmer kids so the parents could celebrate their anniversary. It was wild, but fun. The trick with these three is to get them REALLY tired and worn out before bed. We had a plan,

Laps around the house . . . . check
Push-ups . . . . check
Rolling situps . . . . check
Jumping jacks . . . . check
Army crawl . . . . check

It TOTALLY worked. They went to bed at bedtime and slept like champs all through the night. Once again, I was the video girl, Dan was the ring leader. (See previous post)

This video is pretty long and loud, but it's hilarious. I am posting it mostly for the extended Zimmer fam. Enjoy Nana and Poopa. . .

"That's Funnnneeeeeee"

Dan and Claire had a lot of fun the other day. I think they played this "funny" game for like an hour and a half. And she laughed really hard the whole time. When Dan asked her if he could go get a drink of water, she said, NO! It was awesome.

1st Grade Science

It's done! The bedroom turned laundry room is back to bedroom. And wow, it looks nice.

When the washer and dryer were put in, they put five holes in the wall to find the water source. Instead of patching the wall, they covered it up, with really ugly partical board.

On the opposite wall, paint was peeling off in huge pieces. Oil based paint was applied over water based paint without any prep sanding or scraping.

Isn't that the very first science project you do in 1st grade? Oil and water don't mix people! Even when it's in paint. Sheesh.

What's that saying? It always looks worse before it looks better? Amen to that. It wasn't pretty but we did it. Check out these befores, durings and afters.

Frank, Dean-o and Sammy

Friday could not have come soon enough, do you agree? We are due for another Friday Night Movie right? Okay, it's the last movie on Dan's favorite list.

Ocean's 11

Filmed in 1960, this Las Vegas heist classic is loaded with stars... Including
Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Ange Dickinson

These guys were the essence of cool, the big cheese, the full monty, the bees knees, the cat's meow. They were so smooth. In 2001, they remade Ocean's 11 with a cast that was good, but nothing, my friends, could compare to these guys. It's no surprise Dan liked this one.

It starts with eleven friends who knew each other from World War II. They devise a master plan to rob five of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas in one night. But after the whole thing is over, something goes wrong...

This movie is great! The music is jazzy, the actors are classy and the ending is snazzy.

Just a warning though, it's a long one. It can get a little slow at times, but just stick with it, I promise you will enjoy it.

Happy Friday everyone.

An Update, A List

Here's what has been going on in our lives. Listed, 1-8

1. Dan beginning his 3rd to last semester, so in other words, we will be here a little longer.

2. Me working. Its feels good to earn money, and have a job. This way Dan can concentrate on school.

3. We visited Annie's new baby Ava, and our dear friends the Hunts, who just had Jordan a few days ago. Wow there are lots of new babies around us.

4.The Rexburg house is officially on the market, the sign is in the window. It's kinda sad actually.

5. Fixing up the Rexburg house. This week we tackled the laundry room. Asta la vista washer and dryer, hello giant new bedroom. Pics coming later.

6. Us trying to understand why it's so blasted cold here, and why we have stayed so long. Oh yeah, school. One bachelors degree down, one to go.

7. We are playing the waiting game. Dan should hear what city his internship is any minute. The most likely places: Salt Lake City, Ogden, Boston, Portland, Seattle. Any day now, just waiting for a phone call.

8. Gearing up for the olympics, I keep trying to convince Dan we should just get in the car and drive to Vancouver.

We are super busy trying to get the house in shape, getting rid of stuff, getting ready to move, working, studying. . . we don't have a lot of time to do anything else. Is a break coming soon?

We HOPE.
